Health and Safety

Young Scholars Academy of Cary has an open-door policy for establishing a partnership between our children, families, guardians, teachers, and administrators. But when it comes to Health and Safety, there is no open-door policy.

The owners of Young Scholars Academy are retired New York City Detectives, and the security and well-being of the children attending the early childhood learning center are paramount. There are established Health and Safety protocols for admittance to the property, allowable foods in the school, and hygiene and daily care.

Security Practices

In addition to locked doors and personnel stationed at the front desk, other measures are in place to safeguard your child. They include:

  • Alarms on all doors
  • Personalized key fobs issued to parents to gain entry
  • Proper identification required for access to the center
  • Pick-ups only allowed by persons designated on the pick-up list
  • Lockdown drills conducted at varying intervals
  • Thorough background checks and fingerprints required for any personnel (including volunteers) working at the school

Food Policies

Lunchtime is an opportunity for social engagement, nutritional connection, and cultural exposure. Food is a personal choice for families for various reasons, one of which may be food allergies. Young Scholars Academy offers parents the option of bringing food for their child or having lunch supplied by the school. Nutritious and delicious meals are provided daily.

Due to the prevalence of food allergies, all staff members will be aware of any allergies related to a child. All safety protocols are followed to ensure no food exposure or cross-contamination impacts a child’s well-being.

Hygiene and Personal Care

Young Scholars Academy is a new facility with modern, well-designed classrooms, common rooms, and bathrooms. All rooms are cleaned daily with products and applications adapted by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services for Children. Children will be taught proper hand-washing techniques and healthy habits around others, such as coughing into one’s arm. Guidelines are in place to ensure proper diapering, safe sleep practices, physical activity, and toileting.

We will ask you to keep your child home if they exhibit symptoms consistent with illness. However, should your child get ill at the center, our staff is First Aid and CPR trained and skilled to recognize signs of illness should a child become sick during the day.
